Cake Care Information

Please ensure that you read the information carefully as Jo's Cake House cannot be held liable for damaged items caused by incorrect handling and transportation, once the purchase has been handed over to you, the customer or an external courier company organised by the customer.

Handling and Transportation

Ensure your cake/cupcake cox is held level at all times and should be transported on a flat surface, ideally in the boot of an empty vehicle or the footwell of a vehicle. Never transport on a passenger's lap. Do not lift the box from the sides as this could damage the cake. Always lift from underneath the box provided. Drive extra carefully as though every care is taken to make the cake structure as sturdy as possible, sudden movements may damage the cake.

Storage

Cakes should be store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Once the cake has been cut, cover the exposed cake to prevent it from drying out. If the cake will not be eaten within a day of collection, transfer your covered cake to the fridge. Please not that depending on the humidity in your fridge, fondant covered cakes may be damaged. Remove your cake from the fridge at least an hour before serving.

Cupcakes should be eaten ideally on the day of purchase. Ensure it is stored in an airtight container when storing in the fridge as they are very prone to drying.

Shelf Life

Ideally, consume your cake within 3 days of your collection/delivery date. Cupcakes are best consumed within 24hrs and ideally within 2 days. If you have any leftovers, you can freeze your cake for up to 3 months. Make sure it is wrapped in a double layer of cling film then foil before freezing. Defrost fully before consuming.

Cutting the Cake

Remove any toothpicks, candles, decorations, cake dowels and sugar paste plaques (if applicable) before slicing your cake.
If required, refer to a cake portion guide for guidance on the number of slices your cake can serve.
Layer cakes are best sliced with a large plain edged kitchen knife. Cold buttercream or ganache can stick to a knife and make the cake crumble when slicing. To ensure neat, smooth slices, simply have a jug with hot water and a kitchen cloth to hand to dip and wipe the knife blade between slices.

To lift your slice off the cake board, use a cake slice lifter or palette knife.
